York Theatre Royal:TakeoverFestival

I wrote and devised a story for the York Wall postcard trail, part of the Takeover Festival. It was based on the true tragic story of the Jews being persecuted in Medieval England inside the York Walls.  See the full review here  "Bland mesmerised the viewing public with her take on York’s folk tales – specifically, the story of a young girl and the fate of her Jewish community. Skilfully combining spoken-word performance with the historic, Louise Bland successfully revived a bygone era through her connection to the audience. A personal highlight of the day, Bland’s performance brought the York Walls Performance Trail to a thought-provoking end."

RSC -OPEN STAGES

What She Will k me.

Through the eyes of his wife, Ann Hathaway, ‘What She Will’ tells the story of the women who influenced William Shakespeare. It contained many scenes from a wide range of his plays brought to life by an ensemble cast of seventeen actors. An original fresh musical score containing new arrangements of Shakespeare's songs and poems accompanied our performance.

I lead the cast as Ann Hathaway, the main protagonist in this wonderful piece of new writing which was part of the esteemed RSC Open Stages competition. We performed 4 sold out nights at the Bridewell Theatre, Blackfriars. We were voted into the 2nd round at Questers in July 2015 and ended up as one of the final shows performing at the RSC on the RST stage in August 2015.

Storyweavers - Welcome to the Dolls

Co-written and created with Samantha Ng  we came up with the idea of a devised, site specific performance called 'Welcome to the Dolls'.

We wanted to play with the audience’s perceptions of what is ‘normal’. Are the dolls, dolls or are they old people, aliens or patients with mental illness. We were aiming to be controversial and shake up the audiences perceptions of sanity.

We took the performance on tour to three festivals including; Watford Live Festival and Greenbelt Arts & Music Festival, where we performed to 350 people.
